Ksan Place: A Southside Community Space
Ksan Place is a space, a unit within the Skeena Kalum Housing Complex, intended to enable community programming on the south side of Terrace. It’s a shared space, utilized by a number of community agencies.
Legal Aid offers outreach services at Ksan Place twice a week - people are able to access a trained, legal advocate. If you have a legal problem but can't afford a lawyer, the Legal Services Society (LSS) has a range of free services that may help.
Skeena Family Resources offers their Parent Connection group one day a week. It’s a drop-in program for caregivers and children birth to 6 years of age. This program allows parents and caregivers to come together with their children to share ideas, resources, and experiences while building on skills, coping strategies, community supports, and education re: parenting, child development, household management, and personal skills.
A number of nutriton based programs also operate at Ksan Place - a Community Kitchen, with kitchen equipment and supplies made possible through a grant from DASH BC, is one of those programs. A community kitchen is a group of people who get together on a regular basis to cook healthy, nutritious meals. From recipe selection, to shopping, cooking, and clean-up, everyone participates. Within the groups, participants find fun, friendships, and the tools to stretch their food dollars. The quantity of food that is prepared is divided among group members to take home.
A children’s reading room, furnished and decorated through cash donations, is a safe, friendly and comfortable spot for children to spend quiet time. Another room, has been designated a youth room - a space for youth to read, work on homework, etc.
These, and a number of other programs operating at Ksan Place fit within one of thecommon assumptions of Ksan Place neighbourhood programming - programs which promote and develop healthy lifestyles that include balanced physical, emotional and intellectual and social
development.
